Green Schools Action Day

On Friday 28th May we had our Green Schools Action Day for our latest theme which is Global Citizenship Litter and Waste.

The Senior room carried out a litter pick through the village. We didn't collect much litter which is a good sign as to how well the village is kept.

We also emptied our compost bin and examined the contents. It hadn't been emptied in many years. We got lovely compost from it.

One of our parents kindly donated some Sunflower plants to the school. We planted them against the wall in our percolation area. We fertilised them with the compost from our compost bin. Our junior room pupils then painted Van Gogh Sunflowers on canvass. Our carbon footprint was very low with this activity!

Each child in the school planted some wildflower seeds

in a little pot of their own. Everyone brought home their pots where they can keep an eye on the growth of the seeds.Everyone is encouraged to keep their wildflower pot in their garden in order to attract pollinators such as bees.

We packed a lot into our Action day and we hope it will help us earn our 6th Green Flag!
